Can it Fly?

Class 2 enjoyed a fabulous STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) day, exploring the history of aviation.
We investigated the lifting properties of helium balloons (lighter-than-air craft) and then tried to recreate some of the thinking behind the Wright brothers first 'heavier-than-air' craft. We discussed what was necessary for a plane to maintain a controlled flight and decided that a rigid, stable, lightweight, aerodynamic shape with wide wings for maximum air resistance was the winning recipe. Well done to PM, OJ and AB for their winning design, using tracing paper and a hint of tape.
